Texas Tales is a collection of true stories, short stories, and even a poem about growing up in the south. It is not a very long book at forty-five pages and is a great quick read. The book has an awesome tale about a young boy who moves to New England from Ohio. He has everything he needs to be a successful young man in this new land of opportunity but all the boys in his neighborhood are not so lucky. Checkout Bonuses.
The book starts out with chapters that tell about each individual character in the story including where they live, their likes and dislikes, what kind of things they like to do, and how often they do those things. Then, after that there are introductions about all the places and cultures that the book covers as well as key places to check out in New England like Boston, Concord, and Springfield. This book is a quick read but one that is full of life. I especially love the portions that take place in Texas because they give a glimpse of the people and how they live there.
My favorite part was when the author, Shelby Foote, tells the story of a little boy who is asked to help his grandmother with her chickens one day. The boy meets his best friend who happens to be the local sheriff and becomes a part of the family for several years. Throughout the years the sheriff stays just behind the scenes but by the end of the book, you can sense that Shelby feels a real connection with this part of his life. This book is fun and informative and is one that any avid reader will enjoy.Read More
